Top Hat Engage 2020 will feature three high-impact keynotes from some of the industry’s top influencers. First up is Dr. Christopher Emdin, an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics, Science and Technology at Teachers College, Columbia University, where he also serves as Associate Director of the Institute for Urban and Minority Education. Emdin is the creator of the #HipHopEd social media movement, and is a sought-after public speaker on hip-hop education, STEM education, politics, race, class, diversity, and youth empowerment. Dr. Lauren Herckis, an anthropologist at Carnegie Mellon University who specializes in faculty culture and the use of technology in higher education, heads up our second main stage presentation. In her research, Herckis applies anthropological methods and theory to explore the ways people engage with innovative technologies, and how these technologies shape culture. Herckis’s research informs policy making, shapes the development of learning technologies, and illuminates aspects of organizational culture and policy which affect teaching practice.
Our third and final keynote will be conducted by Mike Silagadze, Top Hat’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, and Nina Bilimoria Angelo, Top Hat’s Vice President, Product Marketing. Under Silagadze’s leadership, Top Hat has become the market leader in student engagement software, and is used by millions of students at three-quarters of the top 1,000 colleges and universities in North America.
