The main advantage of Top Hat is that our platform fosters student engagement beyond the classroom—our response system doesn’t end with lectures. Top Hat also offers 14 different question types and straightforward pricing to improve affordability for students. See a more detailed comparison here.
In addition to offering flexible monitoring options within exams, Top Hat helps preserve academic integrity by making it easier for educators to implement frequent low-stakes assessment and other equitable strategies that drive insights while reducing the impulse for students to cheat.
Instructors have the option to pose anonymous questions to their class. They are a great tool for the collection of sensitive, polarizing, or personal feedback from a class with privacy, accuracy, and honesty. When an anonymous question is selected, you will not be able to see what individuals answer. Only aggregated results will be available from our polling software when an anonymous question is used, meaning it cannot be graded as students’ identities are hidden. Read more about anonymous questions in this Support Center article.
Students can answer interactive polls and all other question types in Top Hat through our platform on a computer or tablet, or by using our app on their mobile device. Students don’t have to be physically in the classroom, they can answer questions remotely during class provided they have joined the appropriate course.
Yes, Top Hat has autograde functionality across a variety of question types and assessment options. Depending on the assignment, Top Hat has automatic grading capabilities. Student responses to Top Hat discussions can be graded for correctness and/or participation.
