# A Note to Instructors

This text has been created to satisfy the corequisite model for College Algebra. The text includes a Study with Purpose lesson in each section. This lesson is designed to develop a student's academic mindset and to present evidence-based strategies that help students retain the material. The prerequisite skills sections present the specific topics students need to successfully complete the corresponding College Algebra material which is referred to as Core Content. The Prerequisite Skills (PS) and Core Content (CC) sections contain the textbook material with embedded questions and videos. The PS Exercises and CC Exercises are pages of homework for students to complete.

The text includes the following additional instructor resources.

**1)** **Slide decks:** The slide decks are PDF's of the Powerpoint presentations that correspond to the text. The slide decks have a corresponding problem for each worked example in the text. The slide decks have been uploaded into the Top Hat course for in-class presentations. The slide decks also include prepared questions that students can answer in the Top Hat platform for immediate feedback.

The slide decks were not designed with the expectation that you will be able to work each example provided in the slide deck. Adjust them as needed. You can delete slides that you do not need within Top Hat. To update or make changes to the slides, go to the Google Drive Instructor Resources folder to download the original PPT versions, make edits, save as a PDF and then Re-upload the slide deck into your Top Hat course.

See the following support articles for more details on how to use the present feature in Top Hat.

**2) Original PPTs, PPT Solutions, and PDFs:**** **The Google Drive Instructor Resources folder contains the original PowerPoint presentations for both the Prerequisite Skills and Core Content slide decks, solutions for each PPT presentation, and PDF versions (4 slides per page) of the blank PPTs and the PPT solutions.

I recommend that you provide a copy of the PDF version of the PPT without solutions to your students in your LMS. Students can print the PDF version, bring them to class, and take notes as you present the slide deck in class. The PPTs have a blank page at the point where a Top Hat question appears. Students can use the blank page to write down the problem and work it in their notes.

**3) Unit Reviews:** Unit Reviews are uploaded to the Instructor Resource folder in Top Hat with embedded questions. The original slide decks are available in the Google Drive Instructor Resources folder. There are four reviews: Sections 1 - 7, Sections 8 - 13, Sections 14 - 18, and Sections 19 - 25.

**4) Test Banks:** The test banks for the prerequisite skills and core content objectives are provided in the Instructor Resources folder in Top Hat. You will find a page of questions arranged by objective for each section. Questions from these pages can be imported into other pages of Top Hat to create additional reviews, quizzes, or tests. See the Importing Existing Questions into Your Page section for more information.

**5) Active Learning Activities:** The Google Drive Instructor Resources folder contains printable active learning activities that correspond to specific sections in the text. These active learning activities can be used to introduce or teach specific topics. A Word version, PDF version, and solutions for each activity are provided.

**6) Prerequisite Worksheets:** Worksheets (Word and PDF versions) for each of the prerequisite sections are provided in the Google Drive Instructor Resources folder. These worksheets can be used as group activities in the support course to provide additional practice on the prerequisite skills.
