Developed in partnership with Dr. Abram Anders from Iowa State University, Using AI for Learning: Functional, Critical, and Ethical Considerations is a resource that educators can use with their students at the beginning of the term to explore constructive uses of generative AI in an academic setting. By completing this module students will develop a functional knowledge of generative AI tools, understand the steps involved in thinking critically about AI output, and develop strategies for maintaining academic integrity while leveraging AI’s capabilities to support their learning. This flexible resource is available in two formats: an assignable, interactive module that students can work through outside of class, and a set of slides with integrated Top Hat questions for presentation in class. Both formats are editable and can be easily tailored to reflect unique AI policies and classroom needs. About the author: Dr. Abram Anders is the Jonathan Wickert Professor of Innovation and Associate Director of the Student Innovation Center at Iowa State University. His current projects explore artificial intelligence applications in writing and education and the integration of AI across disciplines.
