What is a
Behavior Management
Behavior management is a plan of action to help students understand the acts, attitudes and beliefs that are and aren’t appropriate within the classroom. Behavior management involves taking necessary steps to effect change in student behavior to allow for a more conducive learning environment. When student expectations are made clear, learners are more likely to obey classroom guidelines. Behavior management is an effective way to reward desirable behavior in the classroom. On the other hand, this management style ensures students who break classroom rules are met with fair and consistent consequences.
Behavior management is a strategic plan that promotes positive class behavior and discourages demeaning and unfair acts. One of the most common behavior management systems is positive behavior management, whereby educators motivate students to continue displaying ideal behavior by rewarding them. For instance, students may be given a homework-free day in order to reinforce desirable classroom behavior. Faculty might also promote positive behavior by setting clear expectations for class time, adjusting the difficulty of tasks depending on proficiency levels and letting students decide what case study to complete depending on their area of interest. The end goal of behavior management is similar to that of behavior intervention, where educational leaders create tailored learning plans to help students understand how to act in affirming ways.
