What is

Just In Time Teaching (JITT)

Just in time teaching (JITT) is a teaching and learning strategy focused on devoting more class time to active learning techniques. Students prepare for their classes by reading supplementary materials or completing a complex assessment online. Their work outside of the classroom serves as preparation for a more in-depth experience in class. Since the professor has access to their students’ answers a few hours prior to the start of class, the instructor is able to adapt the lesson to meet students’ identified needs.

JITT refers to a learning and teaching technique that prioritizes collaborative problem solving and interactivity. This method provides instructors with insights into students’ existing knowledge on a topic before they teach a new lesson. Because of that, JITT can create a more productive experience for instructors and students: instructors are able to adjust their teaching activities to better serve student misconceptions or areas that they’re struggling with.
