What are
General Education Courses
General Education courses are required classes taken by students enrolled in traditional four-year degree programs at accredited academic institutions. These courses focus on central ideas in Western societies, such as psychology, sociology, English literature and political science.
General Education courses refer to classes that are designed to build and strengthen essential employability skills within the context of an exploration of topics with broader societal or personal importance. There is often a great deal of flexibility in General Education courses so students can learn new skills through personal interests. These courses also help students acquire the skills essential to post-secondary learning: they challenge students’ critical thinking skills, strengthen written and oral communication skills, and assist in problem-solving abilities.
