What is

Diagnostic Teaching

Diagnostic teaching is the process of discovering individual student abilities, needs and objectives and prescribing requisite learning assessments. Instructors monitor students’ understanding and performance before, during and after teaching a lesson. Assessments can inform instructors of their efficacy when teaching and can guide them towards areas they need to emphasize in class to aid students in comprehending material.

Diagnostic teaching refers to a process that enables students to detect, understand and correct misconceptions in their work. This type of teaching involves a constant interplay between assessment and instruction to evaluate learning abilities and teaching effectiveness, respectively.
