What is
Problem-based learning
Problem-based learning is an educational philosophy that centers students’ learning experiences by allowing them to work through an open-ended problem found in course material. This pedagogy fosters student-centered learning and upholds lifelong learning, focusing on comprehension rather than facts. Enabling each student to take on a specific role within the group reinforces the development of interpersonal skills such as teamwork, communication and problem-solving and accelerates cognitive growth.
Problem-based learning refers to an educational process where learners work in small groups. This method centers on the student’s reflection to organize their learning. This process allows for active learning and stronger retention and understanding of knowledge. By using group intellect, problem-based learning exposes learners to a variety of opinions and experiences and drawing on real-life experiences in their learning to develop multiple different solutions to a problem.
