What is a
Culturally Responsive Pedagogy
Culturally responsive pedagogy is an approach to teaching that incorporates a student’s prior knowledge and home and community experiences into teaching and learning experiences. This pedagogy has three central pillars: (1) maintaining high expectations for all students, (2) helping students develop cultural competence and (3) guiding students to develop a critical cultural consciousness.
Culturally responsive pedagogy refers to a teaching style that recognizes that all students learn differently. It understands that these differences are connected to language, family structure, background and cultural identity.
