Universal Design
Universal design is the structure and composition of an environment so that it can be understood, accessed and used by all people regardless of their age or ability. This principle increases usability of an environment or product without an increase in cost by eliminating design modification needs later when demographic abilities or circumstances shift.
Universal design generally refers to a set of principles that guide the design process of a space, product or communication that allow for usability for all members of a community. The need and desire for universal design will grow as populations continue to age. Aging populations are more likely to have hearing, mobility and vision challenges.
