The full title of the book is: Research Methods in Education and the Social Sciences: A Practical Guide to Theories, Principles, Strategies, and Analytical Skills Needed to Complete a Higher Degree Research Proposal and Thesis.
This book is used as the prescribed textbook for higher degree students (i.e. Master's and PhD) completing studies in Research Methods in the School of Education at the University of New England, but its contents are in high demand by any student wishing to study Theories, Principles, Strategies, and Analytical Skills Needed to Complete a Higher Degree Research Proposal and Thesis in any good university . These topics are covered in Units often called Research Methods 1 and 2, but different universities have different labels. As explained further in the Preface of the book, for students at UNE, this is the only book you need for Research Methods 1 (EDRM590) and Research Methods 2 (EDRM591).
As indicated in the title, the book has been written to help students achieve three learning outcomes:
1. To help you develop an understanding of theories, principles, strategies, and analytical skills you need in order to complete a Higher Degree Research Proposal and Thesis.
2. To help you understand how to apply these in writing a Higher Degree Research Proposal
3. To help you understand how to apply these in writing a Higher Degree thesis, such as a Master's or a PhD degree.
The book should also be a great help to supervisors of HDR students, and to early career researchers, especially in education and the social sciences.
