This text explains how the design of the immune system protects the healthy human from the wide array of pathogens encountered in our environment.

Introduction

This text is designed to introduce undergraduate, graduate and medical and other professional  students to the immune system. It takes the point of view that the primary goal of the immune system is to protect against infection and explains how it is designed to accomplish that goal.
