Professor Mary Elliott

Family & Consumer Sciences

“I like using Top Hat to give small quizzes during class to assess students’ knowledge of content that they should be covering outside of class. I have used the Turning Technologies student clickers in the past, and decided to try Top Hat. One issue with clickers was the delay in getting all the students on clickers that worked! With Top Hat, the reduced price and easy registration process alleviates this difficulty, and I’ve had large classes completely ready for quizzing by the second class period of the semester. With Top Hat, I do not have to come up with new quizzes every semester; I can just tweak with the addition of new content, textbooks, resources, etc., and download in seconds. I’ve also used the homework feature for assessments when I’ve been out of town at a conference, so learning can still go on in my absence. The feature students seem to enjoy the most about Top Hat is the ability to access it through their phones, and the likelihood of a student forgetting their phone for class is almost nil.”
Dr. Elliott teaches a 70-student Professional Perspectives course at Baylor.
