Russian Folklore

Stanley J. Stepanic

Russian Folklore is the first text of its kind to fully describe the vast array of examples of folklore in the Russian context. It provides students with a background in Russian cultural history and then engages in theoretical and analytical discussions concerning various types of folklore. The three primary topics are Narrative Folklore, Material Folklore, and Social Folklore and the variety of ways in which they have appeared in Russia. This includes dance, fairytales, folktales, food, magic, wedding rituals, and much more. Traditional peasant culture serves as the primary foundation in the text, with modern examples and the evolution of folklore in Russia provided for the reader.
